We work with commercial businesses, hospitality venues, architects, interior designers, builders and residential customers seeking something individual. Custom mosaic artwork can be viable from approximately 1 m², and every project is individually quoted.

What can we create?
A mosaic can reproduce recognisable imagery or bring an unusual pattern to a wall or floor. Projects can include:
- Artwork, photographs, animal portraits and scenic pictures
- Custom mosaic murals and feature walls
- Business logos, branded features and hospitality designs
- Floor designs, geometric layouts and unusual tile patterns
- Heritage or restoration-style replacement designs, where an appropriate mosaic solution is possible
Custom work is not limited to pictures. A previous ExoTiles project involved replacement flooring for a historic building, using porcelain hexagonal pieces arranged in a custom pattern. If you need to reproduce an existing layout, include photographs and dimensions in your enquiry.
Porcelain, glass or stone
Custom mosaics can be produced in porcelain, glass or stone. The material, available colours, piece size and construction approach all influence the finished appearance. Tell us where the mosaic will be used and the effect you want so we can discuss suitable options for your design and application.
Hand-cut or standard-piece mosaics
Hand-cut mosaic artwork
Individual pieces are hand cut to reproduce the design. Shaped pieces can follow curves, rounded forms and natural details rather than being restricted to a grid of squares. This generally gives a more refined result and costs more than constructing the image from standard small pieces.
For hand-cut work, photographs and examples of previous ExoTiles mosaics are the usual way to judge the likely result. An exact computer-generated preview of the finished mosaic is generally not available.
Small-piece and pixel-style mosaics
A design can also be recreated using standard small pieces, commonly approximately 1 cm × 1 cm or 2 cm × 2 cm. These are often square, creating an effect similar to pixels in a digital image. The size of the pieces and the overall area affect how much detail the mosaic can show.
For suitable projects, software may be used to provide an indication of how your image could look in these small pieces. This preview is not available for every project; we can discuss whether it is appropriate when reviewing your design.
How ordering and approval work
- Send your brief. Supply a photograph, sketch, logo, artwork or pattern, together with the dimensions, application, location and required timeframe.
- Discuss the approach and quotation. We review the material and construction options for your design. Where suitable, a standard-piece project may include a software-generated indication; hand-cut projects are generally assessed using previous examples.
- Confirm the order. Custom projects generally need to be paid in full before production begins.
- Review photographs of the assembled mosaic. Once the work has been assembled, photographs of the completed mosaic are supplied for you to inspect and approve before it is permanently glued or backed for shipment.
- Receive the mosaic for installation. Large designs are divided into numbered sections for transport and reassembly by your chosen tiler.

How large mosaics are supplied
Individual sections are generally no larger than approximately 1 m² and are often around half a square metre. The sections are numbered so your tiler can position them in the correct order, similar to putting together a large jigsaw puzzle. When installed correctly, they combine to form the complete artwork, mural, floor or pattern.
ExoTiles supplies the mosaic. You arrange on-site installation with your chosen tiler.
Project size, pricing and timing
Artwork projects can start from approximately 1 m². Pricing varies substantially with the total area, design complexity, material, hand-cut or standard-piece construction, quantity and freight. Larger projects generally cost less per square metre. We quote each project individually rather than publish a standard price that may not suit your design.
Custom orders generally require at least one month, with the total timeframe depending on the design, material, quantity, production requirements and freight. Please confirm the current estimated timeframe before ordering.
